Speedo stuck at maximum...

It's always worked fine before, but now it's stuck all the way round to the right, against the pin. Doesn't move at all, even with ignition off. Gear shifts are working fine.

When I bought it (three weeks ago) it had already been chipped to MPH and had new faceplate. Had intermittent problem with the hold light flashing, which other posters have linked to the speedo chip - that's never been a problem though, as it's fixed by restarting.

I did several searches but couldn't find anyone with the same problem. I've had a quick look for the speedo cable underneath without success, but surely if that had come loose the speedo needle would be stuck on the left? Bit stumped.

On balance the Bongo's doing well; got the air-con working (think maybe it was drained when imported) and it drives beautifully. Very pleased

the speedo works on an electric signal not a cable.
is the needle just stuck? where someone has changed the face and not put it (the needle) back on properly.
The speedo/clocks is very easy to take out and check.
just undo the 4 screws holding the surround on, unplug any switches, then 4 more screws to take the clocks out. unplug the 2 electrical plugs on the back and pull clear. you can then just pop the clear front off.

Blimey, that was quick! I'll take it to bits in a while and let you know what happens. Have read elsewhere how the needle is mechanical and can be pushed/tipped back if it gets stuck on the right.

Well, got it 'fixed'!

Thanks for your instructions, it was easier than I expected to get the dial box out. The speedo needle seems to drop to the right or left under the influence of gravity. I just pushed it back to the left.

Doesn't this mean that the needle will always get stuck on the right if you go above a certain speed or it gets bounced beyond the midway point?

Anyway, I took it round the block, and this time it was stuck on the left. So I dismantled again and jiggled all the plugs on the back. On the second circuit it was stuck for a 50 yards or so, then it came to life. Seems fine now

.Maybe a dodgy contact.

Only if you regularly exceed 180 mph. Do it too often and it will stay there!
