roof problems

Post by chris » Mon May 21, 2007 8:26 pm

I wonder if anyone can help, driving home after having had roof up then closed, about 3 miles on, first section of dual carriageway and 50MPH disaster roof light on warning beep on, pulled over and roof on driver side has popped up, near side seems to be still locked down.

Have read lots of previous forum bits on roofs, yes handbrake on, engine running, can hear motors ok, and drivers side is trying to move but only small amount near side seems locked shut.

Roof warning light and beep now on when key in ignition.

Could not find owners manual refered to on other forum bits, even in members areas.

all thoughts appreciated

Have you tried raising it and lowering it again?

Sorry I can't help, I've never heard of this happening before. I don't think there is a lock on the roof, just the raising/lowering motors and runners.
Did it make any funny noises when you lowered it before it popped up? It sounds as if something has come adrift on the driver's side, allowing that side to lift - that may have caused the roof to warp and jam the passenger side.

Chris if you are stuck, as I was with a dead battery in April I found the peeps at Dawlish Imports to be very helpful, having fitted the battery for me the chap even re fitted incorrectly fitted pipes and as she was running fast did that on the spot too. Nice touch that I thought and they were nice to boot. Lovely vehicles there too, I was drooling. Worth a visit or phone call at least. Good luck, Happy motoring.

Cheers for the advice, Dawlish is not far so will try tommorrow.

From other forum bits, will try disconnecting / connecting battery to see if this will reset roof lock? is there a roof lock? mechanical / electrical?

chris did you manage to get this sorted??

I would like to give you some advice but I havent had my bongo long enough to take it apart yet, just to see how it works.

I usually find the buggers put in too many nuts, bolts, and screws, I always have loads of nuts, bolts, and screws left over, after taking something apart.
