i successfully removed the sat nav, and fitted it in his place so it's not an urgent matter. it just looks a bit odd, be it a bit flash, with my separates hi-fi system ...

removing radio.......sorry!
sorry for such a tedious waste of your eyes and resources but i still can't get the bugger out! when fitting my new stereo a few months ago, despite EVERYTHING i've read here on it's removal, it won't budge. i had my glove compartment out, head inside the dash, looking right at the damn thing, yet, there he sits. mocking me.

Have you removed the two plastic bits at the sides?
They just clip out using your fingernails.
Then you need the two round metal U-shaped prongs that fit one either side into the two holes either side.
The ends of the prongs depress the locking tabs inside, the grooves near the ends of the prongs grip the springy tabs to help you remove the radio.

Depends on the make. Many have a 'two holes' release mechanism, which a suitable piece of wire coat hanger will deal with. Other type have different shape tools. You can buy them all in Halfords.

yep, tried the (makeshift) hooky-dealys. although the wire may have been a bit flimsy. i'll make some new ones from welding rods. oh yeh, i forgot i failed my recent welding test
so im not allowed to weld again until i decide if i want to resit. balls to them! well, what do they expect if the only time i weld is when i'm sitting my tests! (every year for gas, 3 years for metal arc)
um, where was i.

Is it a Japanese radio cassette with prog buttons top right and lcd screen below cassette opening? If so I have one in my hand and can send pics of side which shows clips. I reached them through the side, its a two finger press if you'll excuse the term!
Better let me have an e mail address if you need to see, radio removal yes, posting pics well not yet!

Stereo retractors
Small Allen keys (the ball ended type) can double as one kind of retractor- better than just welding rods as the radius of the end tends to fit just inside the recess for the proprietry items.- some radio cassetes are fastened by a piece of thin flat bar from the center earting point (4 or 5 mm bolt coming out of the centre at the back of the radio unit)
I hope this helps. if not, if you have a digital photo of the setup you could put on here... I'm sure someone could advise from this.

Hi bluekingfisher2
Don’t bother with the wave band expander when you can buy a stereo for the cheap.
Cheaper than the expander.
