Driving up to Southport at the weekend I glanced at the temp gauge and saw that it was at 3/4. It had never been over 1/3 , every horror story that I'd read about on the forum about overheating flashed through my head!! Turned around and managed to get home, lifted the passenger seat to have a look and found that the bleed pipe was p*****g out.
Last week after reading that this pipe can wear through by rubbing on top of the alternator I checked mine and it was touching, so I fitted a sleeve around it and congratulated myself on checking. What I did'nt check was the condition of the pipe and this is what caused the problem, it was worn but not quite all the way through so it was severely weakened, and moving its position was enough for it to split and start leaking.
So if anyone finds their bleed pipe rubbing on the alt ,take a minute to feel around it and cut it back if it feels at all weak, it should be long enough.
I did this , filled and bled the cooling system using the info on the members fact sheet , and all is ok. Even the bottom hose now gets hot, never did before.

Re: Water Leak
That is actually a bit worrying cos' most peoples bottom hose never gets hot. For it to be getting hot, your thermostat must be opening so the engine is getting warmer than most - keep a beady eye on it for a while, just in case.wooden wheel wrote: Even the bottom hose now gets hot, never did before.
