Hoses Revisited

Following the recent scare about coolant hoses deforming/perishing etc. I thought I'd best give mine the once over. Good job I did. The hose that goes to the turbo has swelled about as bad as Dandywarhol's and two others look a tad dodgy also. So I'll be ordering a handful of hoses and look like being busy again this weekend. My question is this: two of the hoses in question run in front of the engine and towards the scavenger fan. So what needs to be removed to gain access? I can see the under-engine cover needs to come off but what about the top in front of the gear shift? Does that come out easily?

A bit off topic this but a while ago I enquired if silicon hoses faired any better than the standard type as they are designed to cope with Turbos and high performance engines Does anyone have any experience of using them? Oh and they look good too!

Van - I guess you'll need about 12yrs 'in service' to establish whether they last longer on a Bongo

On a turbo MR2, Skyline etc maybe but a Bongo? Spend your money on something more worthwhile like camping gear

Now come on - what about access to these front hoses?

if you mean taking the top part off where the handbreak and gear lever are its straight forward, lift both seats back take the centre consol off, there are about 10 x 10mm bolts around the consol undo them unclip the wiring the handbrake has 2-3 13-14mm bolts that then pulls back the gear lever has 3 14mm bolts (2 on top & one near the hole cut out on the/under the dash) that then moves to the side it should then slide out to the passanger side and you have access to the top of the engine all bolts are different sizes so dont worry about getting them mixed up hope this helps

time to take off about 10-15mins
