remote central locking

Post by clogger » Tue Apr 17, 2007 4:24 pm

hi peeps

i am looking at the possability of going the remote central locking route

what i need to know is does the drivers side door actually have a central locking unit in ???
if yes i can just get a kit that will work this
or as i suspect it don`t so will have to go for the actuator as well for the drivers door
as in the fact sheet in the members area
cheers
peeps

Hi,
I had exactly the same thought. When I took the door card off there was no unit in the drivers side door.
I had tio get an actuator, I think I got it from Ebay, wasn't very dear.
I think some later Bongo's do have a drivers side solenoid.
Cheers

been and had a play with the locks on mr boris
the drivers side does`nt seem to spring up with the rest of the locks so i am thinking it does`nt have the actuator
so just fitting the opening/closing unit would probably work the rest of the doors but not the drivers door
luckily theres loads of kits about on fleabay

now where`s me big hammer

just fitted the remote central locking

but i did`nt put the actuator unit in the bottom corner as in the fact sheet
mine fitted just nice up near the top of the locking mechanism
just enough of a gap to get a screwdriver in and tighten it all up nice
so just needed about 2 inch of the connecting rod
hid the control unit in the bottom of the door well

as homer says in the simpsons(well nearly)

lock goes up lock goes down lock goes up lock goes down lock goes up lock goes down lock goes up lock goes down (repeat till bored yyaawwn)

"Mine fitted just nice up near the top of the locking mechanism"

When I had a Toad alarm fitted, this was where the bloke fitted my actuator, top right hand of the door, near the lock - works fine - not too much distance for rods to bend, etc.

is this a dead simple thing to do? I wonder if I ought to have a bash if so. Ah but, what if I wanted to go a stage further and fit an alarm/immobiliser at the same time. Are we in 'specialist' territory then. I've bought a steering wheel lock from Halfords. Maybe that and remote control locking on its own is a perfectly OK option (and at least the horn wont start going off in the middle of the night just because clap of thunder set it off 0 or are those days in the past what with modern technology?).

What do you think, clogger and others?

I thought about fitting a Toad myself but in the end I just couldn't be bothered so I paid a chap that Yamaha recommended (cheers BTW) to fit it for me. I think it was £250 all in, he fitted it at my car park at work and as yet no false alarms. I'm happy

Hmmm. On my tight budget, I wonder if I could knock something up with some 2x1 and a bit of ply (and maybe a bucket of water)

me personally arn`t too bothered with an alarm as such
would rather have something wired up as an immobiliser
hidden switch type of thing

alarm`s tend to go off and no one really takes any notice other than to complain
had a jeep with a plastic hard top when it rained hard made the alarm go off was a posh clifford self arming jobby so it would not fully disarm

but the remote locking was a doddle just put the actuator in near the top of the door made sure nothing was catching the window mechanism
4 wires common live (from existing wiring) earth wired to door frame and actuator up and down

sorted

Thanks boys, remoted my central locking today thanks to your tips and E Bay. Cost £15 in total think I got lucky.
Mind you I took 3 hours to do it, avoided the black goo though.
