Just fitted a great inexpensive CD/tuner head unit
Thought folk may like to know about a great head unit I have found and fitted to our new Bongo. Its a Sony CDXGT410 and can be found on Amazon here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-CDXGT410U- ... 777&sr=8-1 .
It has a USB input on the front so able to plug in a memory stick (2GB for <£10 on Amazon - which is ~50 albums at sensible compression) or any USB external memory device like my Rio Carbon 5GB MP3 player. Although compressed, transfer is digital quality using the units DAC and much better sounding than headphone jack input or, worse still, FM modulator route. It also has a Aux In on the front, a clock and a remote control for controlling from the back of the Bongo. Great. Only £77 as well from the Amzon Market Place, up to £120 elsewhere.

Just seen this thread and decided to order one, so after 5 mins on Amazon I am now anticipating it's arrival over the next few days!!!
I'm assuming it's gonna be straight forward to fit - remove the old, plug in the new?
I seem to be buying everything I want now before I start paying my mortgage... only thing is will I want one for my car???!

My son just picked up a nice little toy today for £99.00, its one of those all singing all dancing 3" screen in dash tv,dvd, cdr,mp3, mp4,divx,vcd, etc, with enough leads all marked ready to connect headrest speakers etc. Made by JVC apparently, looks lovely, remote control, removable front and all,(if you like that sort of thing), me.. jealous.. no no not a bit,
Got it off evil bay but from a local guy in Cardiff so went to fetch it. Will have to see how it performs in astra. Happy motoring.

Hi Maglett. All fits fine into what is a standard DIN slot in the dash. Will need to remove the old sleeve probably. The wiring will depend on what you find. If the ISO connectors (2 of them) still there, then lead that comes with the unit just plugs in. If not (like mine) you'll need to connect up the relevant wires after cutting off the ISO connectors from the Sony lead. Use the wiring diagram for the Sony and the fact sheet in the members area on Bongo Fury. Not obvious which is +ve and -ve for speakers but not sure that matters......just make some notes before removing old unit.
You'll need to know if you have have premanent 12V to the unit (as with camper conversions) or switched 12V via ignition key as factory fitted.
Hope I've not made it sound hard 'cos its not.....honest.

OK, mine arrived today.
I've plugged it in using and got the CD and Radio to work fine.
Plugged in my Ipod using the USB and nothing happened, it didn't seem to recognise it.
So I've checked on the Sony support section and it doesn't list Ipods as being compatible!!!
So I'm wondering...
... if your MP3 worked, and that's not listed, how can I get my Ipod to work?

I would guess it works with any MP3 player which appears as a hard-disk when connected to a computer using USB. Ipods don't do that so they probably won't work.maglett wrote: So I've checked on the Sony support section and it doesn't list Ipods as being compatible!!!![]()

Given that Sony is still smarting from loosing so much of the MP3 player market to Apple they aren't going to be helpful to ipod owners!
