Android/apple carplay?

Post by Stushep » Sun Nov 09, 2025 8:43 pm

New member here, we've just purchased our first bongo and it's awesome in every way except for the truly awful car play system that a previous owner installed. I want to replace it as firstly it doesn't fit properly and secondly it's garbage. Any recommendations please.

All depends on what features you want! All the connections are standard as are the sizes, so make a list of features that you would use and then have look online and car radio shops that meet what your want. For instance for me with a full side conversion and R&R bed, a hand remote that I can take into the back of the van when parked up is essential.

i do hate that nearly all car radios look like they were designed by and for teenage boys. trying to find a carplay unit with a physical volume control is difficult, but there is the odd one out there, mostly from random letter amazon brands. this one has semi decent reviews but i've not yet bothered given one specifically talks about lack of mounting bracket. i don't want to end up spending more on some hacky custom mount than on the unit itself...

Be wary of cheap Android based units, the basic Android hardware doesn't have an On/Off switch it merely turns the screen brightness off, only the better quality units turn the screen actually off and puts it into low current mode, otherwise you will find that a leisure battery powered unit will flatten the LB inside a day!
