Roof electric question

Post by Greenmachine96 » Thu Jul 31, 2025 6:49 pm

I'm on Bongo number 2, so I know a few things.

The new bongo roof only goes up with engine off.

It bleeps but no flashy light. I think someone has by passed the normal electrics so they can move it up and down without the engine on.

How can I put this right? I don't want dodgy electrics.

Thanks

Well it sounds like someone has changed the wiring around from standard, no one can tell from a distance so you need someone local to where ever you are who knows the roofs and wiring!

Ok. That makes sense. I just wondered if there was some standard by pass people do.

Any good Bongo electricians in East Kent??

D2 Services Medway
D and D Autos in Ashford.
These are the only names I found in a search of the forum.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth

Don't think there are any standard dodges, being a small 8-bit computer in the controller it tends to check many things for safety and its not that easy to fool as the wiring for the switches is hidden behind the tracks so not easy to get at. The fact that it doesn't work until engine is OFF is also strange as it is recommended in the manual to have the engine running so that the electrical load is from the alternator and not the battery for starting!

Thanks. I actually still have the old bongo which has a cracked open gearbox and generally dead. But it's electrics were untouched. I'm trying to compare them but I just can't.

The interior room light doesn't seem to like coming on with the door either, even though I've swapped the lamp for another OEM. And the rear parking sensor display doesn't come on. Feels like when the engine is on, telhe roof loom gets cut?!

I'll get the Bongo over to the sugested places and see what they say. Unless someone can help me with a fix? I'm getting good with a multimeter
