MOT

Post by Hazzobongo » Mon Jul 28, 2025 7:21 am

Hi again Folks

Well straight through yet another MOT and thank god for that as starting cancer treatment next week so think my days under vans are over, theres a few rust spots around the van now but if I recover they're all on arches and other up top bits, if I can do them before the year is out and my son decides to stay overseas out of the way of this lunatic running the country I'll probably sell it before next season. Only used it this year twice to stay out overnight so its being wasted and under 80k on a diesel its still running in.

Anyway if my outcome is good I'll post back when its selling, if not see you all in the next life.

My MoT was similar - just a split CV boot to replace, so a bit of jacking and swinging on a breaker bar/getting hands dirty. Crawling around underneath is tiresome, but self-service everything apart from the timing belts , coolant system and gearbox etc, ie where a ramp and specialist garage + money are required.

No rust to speak of - if maintained these Bongos are really great until the rust kicks in on the body work - it's their Achilles heel.

Just thinking to fit reversing camera, GPS, webcam and an entertainment system as a project and to maintain some value + tidy up some parking rash on front bumber.

Sort the arches, underseal and your son will have a belter??, especially if he is handy. Keep chipping away at things and stay positive.

It was undersealed when it came in the country 6 years ago and I had it waxoiled last year, its not been bad underneath just crud and surface rust from the rain and whatever it came out of Japan like, as I said the bits peeing me off are around the windscreen and spots above it and the odd spot along the sides but I don't want to start attacking those and have the paintwork look crap.

Ours passed too today, slight play in the anti-roll linkage ball joint the only advisory.. :D
