Any recent Single vehicle quotes ?

Post by g8dhe » Tue Jun 01, 2021 1:42 pm

Well I'm on the insurance game again looking for cover for the new vehicle arriving hopefully at the end of the month.

Three companies (C&CC, Lifesure & 2Gether) we have used in the past won't now quote if its your only vehicle and you want more than 5K Miles !
It really makes you wonder if they want our business at all ?

Anyone had a quote for single vehicle and more than 5000 miles recently ? New import full side conversion ......

Geoff, a few people have recommended HIC.

Yes there now Sterling called them yesterday PM still awaiting email quote from them, but they were compatible in the same region as Adrian Flux with the verbal figures.

Also tried Jap Cover, they were going to ring me back but haven't done so!

That seems very odd.
Mustard.co.uk have been v good for cars and motorbikes. I'll be trying them shortly for our 'van. Got one from Adrian Flux this morning for 4k miles but it wasn't the most competitive. It's lifesure at the moment.

Update. Tried Mustard. First with 4k and got quotes, then at 6k and got identical quotes. Oddly Flux were the cheapest and quoted less via Mustard than direct - quite a lot too. I'll be having another chat with them!

Finally settled via Mustard to stay with Adrian Flux. Fully comp, 6k miles, £0 voluntary excess 150 compulsory, declared value £12500, sole vehicle with a named driver, in the Guildford area for £172. Rather pleased with that as VED bill has just arrived demanding £280.

I now use Caravanwise who's policy is pretty good and and saved me £60-80 over 2gether and the usual one's quoted. They never increased premium year on year either in fact it went down......wonder what will happen on that front for insurance as from next year. So I will be penalised with possibly higher premiums for people who don't bother or cannot be arsed to shop around come renewal time and just pay a higher premium.....surely there are more important issues to legislate against.

we're new to bongos: just about to buy one and sell our car so we'll be left with only one vehicle.
Bewildered to discover its hard to find insurance if you only have one vehicle.
Adrian flux quoted £1600 despite 7 years NCD, we're both in 40s, and many years driving, no points/convictions etc

The most recent advice about single vehicle insurance i can find is 2021.
Any more recent tips? Cheers!

Yes it seems highly variable at the moment :-( I'm just coming up on my renewal and can see its going to be a frustrating few days ringing around trying to get a sensible figure. I've always liked Adrian Flux as they also do an "Agreed Value" insurance for a sensible price which means that it should eliminate any arguing over the value in the event of a write-off. We shall see shortly what they quote for the coming period!

We ended up going with Safeguard who were the best quote and easy to reach /discuss over telephone. They were happy with single vehicle, and limited work use, and parking on-road didnt cost too much more either.

To add for anyone reading this and still looking for up-to-date advice;

we insured with Adrian Flux (and "agreed value" for about £40 on top) and seemed pretty straightforward for a 9000 mile policy. They were able to 'mirror' (rather than outright 'move') the NCB from existing vehicle which made things cheaper. I'm not sure on the technicalities of how that works, but basically it was cheaper despite having zero years NCB. It'll be cheaper next year when the Bongo has it's own 1 year NCB.... I hope :P

A note on the agreed value - you've to send in photos of condition and engine and odometer. Have these all ready to go as Adrian Flux are acting as the go between for another insurer. The process of sending photos and coming to an agreed value can take 14 days, and in the interim, you're insured for market value. So get it sent off soon as, or even before, you buy!

Also regarding the photo's make sure you get an actual response, last year I had a read receipt and assumed that all was OK, about 6 months later I got an email to say they were cancelling the request as I had not sent the photo's! Wasn't amused, however all was resolved once I had shown that they had received the images and they had "lost" them somewhere, but I had to resend them to get that far.
