Alternator replacement AUTAEG1258

Post by Enakonad » Wed Nov 20, 2024 5:05 pm

Hi there, my bongo needs a new alternator. The bongo is a 2000 2.5 v6 Petrol and the part number is AUTAEG1258, when I first looked with just engine type I thought a replacement would cost about £180.

But now that the mechanic (not a bongo specialist unfortunately) has had a look and got the part number it looks like a replacement will be more like £450-500.

Whilst looking I found barely anything about this alternator or even many places stocking a replacement, but I did find a website that said there is a known fault with this alternator, I’ve attached a screenshot of this.

My question is, does anyone know anything about these alternators? Or maybe/hopefully(!) about a different alternator model that will work in this engine but doesn’t have a known fault?

Anyway maybe a long shot but thanks in advance if you can help in anyway.

Cheers,
Dan

Welcome aboard!

There have been a couple of variations over the years on this alternator for the V6, relating to the mounting and pulley used however it might be worth checking with this company for compatible devices https://www.startermotor-alternator-sto ... 1164-p.asp

The Product codes on the mechanical diagrams and Google searches are;
J50318300A - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=J50318300A
FF4918300 - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=FF4918300

What's wrong with the one you have - they can normally be reconditioned. It's normally more expensive than a replacement if they're commonly available but not if their rare.
