N.Lincs Undersealing.?
N.Lincs Undersealing.?
Anyone out there had any undersealing done in the N.Lincs area.?
I’m in Grimsby and looking to get mine protected.
I would consider doing it myself but only have ramps / axel stands so guess it ain’t so easy..?
Any info / thoughts much appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi from Brigg,
Sorry, can't answer your question but please post if you find someone local. I'm off to Dore Service Station, Sheffield on Wednesday and intend to get some info from them.

Will do Mark.
There’s a place in Spalding, Rustbuster who offer this for £740+vat.. (not cheap but it sounds like they know their onions).
High-pressure cleaning of the underbody using Chlor-X salt remover and traffic film remover.
Infra-red and air blast drying.
Removal of wheels and masking of brakes and hubs.
Removal of any plastic inner wheel arch guards. We do try to remove the plastic rivets carefully to reuse them, but any new fixings required are billed to the customer. (Note: we do not remove painted plastic arch returns and skirts that form part of the bodywork.)
Removal of any loose rust and old loose coatings.
Inspection of chassis, sub frames, sills etc. for corrosion and rot. Please see the note on welding repairs below.
Surface rust is treated with Rustbuster FE-123 molecular rust converter or Corrolan Penetrator.
Vehicle bodywork is masked in vinyl electrostatic wrap before wax spraying begins.
Cavities are injected with Rustbuster Corrolan Active cavity wax using either wet spray or a high-pressure air mix ‘fogging’ method. Cavities include chassis, sills, cross members, subframes, door bottoms and tops, lock mechanisms, A, B and C pillars, bonnet, and boot/hatch seams.
The underbody is coated with Rustbuster Corrolan Pure high-performance transparent amber under body high build film.
Plastic arch guards and wheels are replaced.
Think all that takes a day and a half to complete, long term it’s likely money well spent.
Let me know how you find Dore, had mine serviced/MOT’d at AutoSafe in York, they were very good
Cheers, Mick

Re: N.Lincs Undersealing.?
Thanks Mick - very useful.
Dore don't do undersealing anymore. I've come across conflicting opinion/advice summarised (not surprisingly) that if it is done badly (not cleaning properly before sealing etc.) it can more harm than good. If I decide to do it I'd probably go to Rustbuster based on your post. It probably is a case of getting what you pay for.
As a fairly new Bongo owner, what does interest me is the service offered by Bongo 'specialists' and whether there is any advantage in using them when 90% of work could be done by any competent mechanic... but this is perhaps a whole new discussion. I aim to look further afield after some rather obvious over-charging. Admittedly Bongos have their minor quirks... but it's just a van...
Thanks for the Autosafe tip. I haven't yet found anywhere that I have full confidence in so all recommendations useful.
Thanks again,
Mark

" but it's just a van"
Yep, they seem to forget that its just another vehicle to a decent mechanic, its got its quirks but good local garages can do anything a 'bongo specialist' can do, the biggest problems most face here are thanks to previous owners and their bodges on electrics and other 'additions', I'm still working my way through all of the lecky alterations the previous owner installed 3 years later.

Unless you really know what you are doing you need the specialists for any job that relates directly to the cooling system or disturbing it
doing another job.
doing another job.

Re: N.Lincs Undersealing.?
Its a coolant system, every vehicle has one and some are just more difficult to bleed than others, I've had difficulties with motorcycles, cars and my hilux, out of them all one particular motorcycle had me pulling my hair out for a fortnight as it constantly boiled its guts out on a daily basis but like the others a little hard thinking solved the problem.
Its 3 years since my coolant was changed while having the timing belt changed, its due a change now and I won't be waving funnels of boiling fluid around to do so.

Re: N.Lincs Undersealing.?
Good luck. There is a very bouyant Bongo new cylinder head market and for good reason as is well documented on this forum.
Ours is also due a change now at 5 years (had 5 year coolant put in), I will 100pct be taking it to a specialist.
Back on topic we paid £700.00 for a Dinitrol undersealing this year. It is actually impossible to know how well
the chassis is prepared as it will be covered over in underseal. Garages can certainly say they are going to do a superb detailed
prep job but unless you are literaly standing with them when thye do it you have no idea whether they did or did not.
Dinitrol is regarded as superior than Waxoyl.
In the end you have to trust someone.

Re: N.Lincs Undersealing.?
You could try contacting local garages in Grimsby or the N. Lincs area that specialize in rust protection; they may offer undersealing services. Doing it yourself is possible but tricky without a lift.
