O2 sensor heater circuit on v6

Post by Garybongo » Mon Sep 16, 2024 3:51 pm

Hi,

Could anyone confirm my understanding that a 2000 v6 normally has a 2 wire unheated O2 sensor? On the last MoT the van failed with a bad sensor so I replaced it with a generic 4 wire and didn't connect the heater circuit. It was still hard work passing it and in the testers words 'it suddenly all came within the limits' which I suspect is the sensor not being hot enough.

I was thinking of wiring the heater circuit in to some switched live battery and wondered if anyone else had done that too? Maybe it will improve short run economy too!

Cheers

Welcome aboard!

Not heard of anyone doing that but worth a try, the only comment you see normally is people having a problem removing them and they cut all 4 wires together which then stuffs 12v up the ECU input lead and blows the 5volt ECU logic up ..... expensive mistake to learn!
