So like the thread title states, I'm wondering if the alternator is strong enough to charge external battery while driving?
I have a 1995 2.5 liter turbo diesel, and am going to do a DIY conversion. I have a 2.4 kwh external battery made by Bluetti.
It has input for solar, cigarette lighter and AC.
I was wondering if I tried charging through cig lighter while driving if it would put to much load on the alternator reducing needed charging of the regular and leisure battery in my rig.
I would only use this option when doing big trips. We have one planed next year where we will be driving over 2500 miles in 2 weeks. Using solar when stopped may not be enough to keep our fridge running because we will be moving a lot.
Alternately we would stop once in a while at a paid campground and plug it in to top it off. We would probably be using 500 to 700 wh a day.

No that will be fine for charging, the sockets are however fused at 10Amps so make sure you don't draw too much current, because there are two fuses one is on the back of the socket itself and is rated at 10 Amps, they are best bridged out if you do blow one. The second one is in the internal fuse panel rated at 15 Amps (top right ancillaries) and protects the wiring itself below is a picture of the link/fuse on the back of a socket they are a right pain to get at as well!
