Headlights always ON

Post by ShaunM » Sat Aug 24, 2024 12:15 pm

Need help please. Currently in France (day 23) and headlights stay ALWAYS ON. Clicking sound under the bonnet to the right of the leisure battery and headlight flicketing. 2 Q: 1. Is it OK to drive further? 2. How do I safely turn off the headlights when parked? Thank you, rutvica

Sounds like the headlight relay is either welded in the operated position or something is causing it be operated all the time. The relay is on the nearside wheel arch rear most relay;

It will be inconvenient, but you could disconnect the battery when you park up.

Remove the earth terminal.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Thank you for getting back to me. What I did for now is take the headlights fuse out. Not ideal but it worked.
Will take it to a garage when back.

Thx the picture is helpful and matches what we have. The problem first occurred after heavy rain, so not sure if that's related. Next question is do you have to remove the leisure battery in order to access the relays? I assume so... :?

Possibly, depends on size of LB!! You may be able to reach down under the rubber covers, and then release the plug from the base of the relay, it has a plastic press clip to release the catch. That will then disable the headlights for certain without removing the relay from the holder itself, but maybe fiddly to reconnect if you need to travel with the lights on again!
