Is there any adjustment on front passenger door

Post by Gadgetborder » Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:32 pm

Hi All,
I have finally fitted my kitchen and finished all the electrics so am trying to sort bodywork out.
I bought a second hand passenger door as my old one had rusted at the bottom.
After getting help today I fitted the new door, using the bolts and nuts on the hinge to door interface as it looked like a lot of work to take all the wing off to get to the other fixings at the other end of the hinge.
All went back on ok and door closes well.
Now for the problem, the door is flush with the body at the handle side but at the hinge side it mist stick out proud of the side about 5-8mm.

I have scoured the forum and facebook but I can’t find any info on this or reference to it.

I cannot see any adjustment on the hinges at all. Old bolts, door and hinges all seem to line up so i’m stumped.
Does anyone know how or if there is any adjustment or are there different sized hinges, although I reused the original ones on the van.
Any info would be greatly appreciated .

Many thanks.

Wayne.

Hi its not unknown for the front doors to get caught by a wind and to open up fully and then a bit more twisting the support quite easily. This causes the door to jut out as described and also sometimes to twist differing amounts between top and bottom hinges :-( Happened to myself in Cornwall a few years back, the door is then out of kilter. I managed to get it back by inserting a piece of wood into the open gap between door and behind the wing then carefully closing the door this forces the door back into better alignment, do this a couple of times at each hinge point and you may find it cures the problem.

Check if the hinges are slightly bent or if there's any play in them. Sometimes, adjusting the striker plate can help with alignment, but it might not fix everything. If the hinges don’t seem adjustable, there could be subtle issues with the door itself.

Thank Geoff,
I will try that. The hinges are fine as i left the old ones on so it has to be the door that is the problem.

I will let you know how ut goes. 🤞
