Bongo wont start while hold light flashing
Hi
Bongo starts in cold but when it warms up, I turn the key to ON, the hold light will flash and it will not start. Sometimes can flash 6 times, others over 30 times. Once light goes out it starts easy. Runs smooth, drives smooth. Lost and confused!

Re: Bongo wont start while hold light flashing
Welcome aboard!
When the HOLD light is flashing then its reporting a fault from the ECU, you need to read the fault code from the diagnostic connector down in the passenger footwell see here for details for the earlier versions of the vehicle http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm later versions use 4-digit codes and in the last year of production there was also a standard diagnostic connector added using the standard OBDII connector to the left of the steering wheel on the lower edge of the dashboard.
The fault codes are removed once switched off so you need to read the codes when there flashing, don't switch off to get test gear!

Re: Bongo wont start while hold light flashing
Thanks for the help. I have bridged the pins M&E hooked up led light to D&F got some flashes but not sure if in code table as I think they read L/L/S/L/S/L/SSSSSS 21 11 16?
Not sure if it's correct? Could find those under the trans malfunction codes list.

To start with which engine do you have ?
Second what year is the vehicle ?
Not quite sure what the L/S symbols mean maybe Long Short but not certain, you need to study the information on the link, or also there is a Factsheet if your a Member of the Club itself on the 4-digit codes with some timing diagrams that might help. Login from the link at the top (Join Bongo) and either join or login to the Members Area from which all the lists of information are shown.

Re: Bongo wont start while hold light flashing
Hi it's a 2009 bingo van. 1.8 petrol van. Yes long and short flashes was when the hold light showed up with gaps in between as shown by /
Have joined bongo fury and will look closer for the 4 digit flash codes.
Van start first thing in the morning. Once warmed up or driven, turn key on, hold light flashes, engine winds over but won't start until the hold light goes out then starts and rubs as normal.
Thanks for the help

Ah - this forum is about the Mazda Bongo Friendee vehicles - there isn't a 1.8l vehicle in that range!!! What vehicle do you have ? The diagnostics could well be a lot different.....

Re: Bongo wont start while hold light flashing
Wotcha.
I'm having a similar problem.
2005 2 litre petrol. New start battery fitted early last year and a new leisure battery fitted last month.
Went to start today and the engine turns over fine but does not start. I noticed the hold light was flashing - never seen that before.
I've checked the obvious things like fuses and they are all fine.
When I plug the OBD code reader in it keeps coming up "failed to connect" - once again I made sure it was plugged in correctly the the ignition was on.
I'm running out of ideas.
Has anyone come across this, and the solution to it before ?
Cheers.
Garry.

Re: Bongo wont start while hold light flashing
Did you manage to get yours fixed? We still haven't figured ours out. Makes it so much worse that the OBD2 scanner won't connect.
Re: Bongo wont start while hold light flashing
The OBD is not OBDII hence why your reader doesn't work! Its a much older Mazda standard before the OBD II standard became international. You need to use the info. here http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm
