Coolant Alarm won’t stop

Post by Tigmaster » Sun May 07, 2023 6:43 pm

Possibly covered before so apologies.
Recently purchased Bongo.
Removed idle control valve to clean it and in doing so lost about 1/2 pint of coolant.
I topped this up and since then the alarm won’t stop going off.
Coolant level is about 2cm and not losing any coolant.
I have tried cleaning both screws and also even connected both screws together with a wire and it still goes off.
I don’t know the make but I am guessing it is a fault with the alarm?

Is it a Haydn alarm?

Likely that the connections to the sensor(s) has been broken, there are normally some bullet connectors to enable threading the wires around maybe one of these has become pulled apart ?

not sure what make of alarm it is.
It has 2 screws.
been for a drive today. When i got home i thought i would maybe test the wires near the alarm itself.
Plugged in back into the fuse and its all working ok now.
Its not going off unless i press the test button.

Will see how it goes

Most likely not a Haydn one if it has a test button.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

If I disconnect the battery the alarm will go off continuously when I reconnect it.
If I wait until the engine has warmed up properly and then plug in the fuse the alarm works fine.
Tried placing a wire from one screw to the other - makes no difference.
Tried a continuity led tester across the 2 screws and it lit up.
Tried again with a buzzer, it buzzed a couple of times but then wouldn't buzz again even though the led test showed a continuous flow.

Most odd.
I might have to replace the wires from the alarm to the coolant tank as they run through the bonnet rubber and could be damaged.
