Can you retro fit tailgate handle
Hi all,
So was browsing parts site the other day and saw an internal tailgate handle to open the tailgate from the inside, which on my vehicle i dont have at all.
Anyone know if i can retro fit it to add that function to my tailgate? Seems like it could be quite handy sometimes, and just seeing it as a part i can buy made me want it haha.
Vehicle in the sig if that helps

Ok cool, so the follow up question, how would i go about fitting it? Take off the interior panel, figure out where it goes and then just cut a hole in the interior panel for it to go into? Or something like that ha

Yes that's all there is to it, and just hook on the actuating arm on the lock itself;

Nice, not too bad then from sound of it.
I found this diagram;

From looking over that, am i right in thinking there should also be a button to push down for the central locking of the rear tailgate? Again i don't have that and not seen parts for it about, but just wanted to confirm the handle wont do the locking aspect, just open and close?

Re: Can you retro fit tailgate handle
No there isn't a lock button at all its done either by key or central locking, no separate button which merely locks the door from the inside handle being used.
Re: Can you retro fit tailgate handle
Owing to the fact that the interior door handle mechanism is an optional extra it would be advisable to check the locking mechanism and make sure it has provisions to accept release rod..good luck.
Re: Can you retro fit tailgate handle
Well it all worked out, since all the bits came with the part that i needed. The bracket it connect into already has the hole to take it too.
The only major thing to do was modify the door card to cut space out for it, but even that had a marking on it for the area it needed to go so pretty straight forward dremel job.
So if anyone else has a go, hopefully this helps a bit.
