No start - 2.0L petrol Friendee 2005
Hi guys,
Few weeks ago my bongo (2.0 L petrol 2005 Aero city runner) stopped sudently as I was slowing down at a roundabout and since then I can't start it.
Don't have much knowledge in cars but happy to learn and DIY. I have removed one spark plug and tried starting the engine with the plug touching/near touching a ground point and I got no spark. Then opened the distributor cap, but things look alright, made sure all the wires were reconnected fine.
Then I have check the connector of the coil with the igntition on and it provides 12V to it. I have then with the lead that comes out of the coil tried to create a spark with a ground point but nothing happened but I am not sure it is the right way to test the coil. Anybody could tell me how to test it whithout removing it from the engine ?
Many thanks in advance

Could be one of several things, quite common for a failure of the cam/crank shaft sensor that sends the signal to the system to fail and hence no spark is generated at the required time. If your not conversant with engine faulting then probably best to get it into your garage for diagnoses ?

Thanks for replying Geoff,
Van is severals miles away from my nearest bongo specialist garage unfortunatly, I'll have to think about how to get it there.
Damned it sounds more complicated than I thought it would be, also forgot to mention that the OBD reported a P1562 error "Manufacturer control", not sure it helps.

Where abouts is the vehicle there are several Mobile mechanics available for Bongo's but obviously they have there various patches they cover ?
If your in the South central England then maybe some one like Julian Rogers perhaps ?

Thanks will have a look, I am in West sussex, 30 min from Brighton. I will contact Bongo Mad on Tuesday to see if they can pop around.

Any garage should be able to repair this vehicle for you, there is nothing alien about the ignition system. good luck.
Re: No start - 2.0L petrol Friendee 2005
Is the shaft sensor easily accessible and could you direct me to it? Might as well have a quick look at it on the off chance.
Thanks
Thanks

On a 2l late version its probably part of the distributor, the sensor is built into the body and there is a connector on the side for the signals, in addition to the normal EHT wiring for each plug etc.

Can you confirm that the distributor drive is actually turning?

Hello MaxHH, any update ?
Re: No start - 2.0L petrol Friendee 2005
Sorry for late reply,
AA towed Bongo to local garage that couldn't find the issue
Had to pay for towing to specialist garage that found a broken Cambelt.
Only had the belt replaced last year and done less than 1000 miles, garage can't explain what happen
Anyway just got it back last week

Doesn’t say a lot for the first garage, but glad you’re sorted, and at least it’s a non-interference engine.

Local garage not noticing the cambelt was broken doesn’t inspire confidence. Glad you are sorted. Happy bongoing.
