Roof issue

Post by Alacrity » Fri Aug 26, 2022 11:01 am

I have exactly the issue raised in a previous post. The roof was last raised around Xmas 21 as it lives inside the workshop over the xmas break so I raise it to air it. Bear in mind the Bongo has been 'resting' since August '19, but it came up & down OK. Earlier this month I had a major mission to get the thing on the road again (brake callipers seized, rear heater pipe corroded through, horn wiring, new screen, welding etc etc.) but the roof wouldn't lift. As in the earlier post there is (was) a motor running (sounded like it is from the offside& it beeps as normal) but having just checked again that has also stopped now.

I have never heard any untoward noises so I am rather hoping is can be fixed without removing the roof!

If the motor is running then it suggests that it has dropped away from the mounting where the crown gear engages with the Teleflex cable or something has snapped inside its gearbox. They use the same mounting method as the top frame of the AFT tent and over the years the Epoxy glue fails and allows the mounting to drop away. See here for relevant parts http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/aft/index.php?ind=18
