Starting issues

Post by trikeboiler » Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:16 pm

Hi all, I have a 1997 2.5 diesel bongo, when starting from cold she splutters a lot and quite a lot of fumes from the exhaust, if I give her a bit of a rev it settles down and ticks over smoothley, any ideas why she is sputtering, and it's only from cold. Thank you

My guess would be glow plugs, or one, at least.

Bizarrely mine just did this when I woke him up yesterday.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

When were the glowplugs last replaced ?
Check to see if there are volts getting to the busbar if you have a meter, comes on with Ignition to On and then stays on till the ECU has seen the engine warm up sufficiently.

Mine were only replaced Nov 2021.

I'll still be looking there.
