Lucky Coin
Lucky Coin
Hi,
Today I learnt that non-export versions of the MX-5 in Japan (the Eunos Roadster) had an 100 yen coin hidden somewhere in them for luck by the workers.
Back when my mother got her Bongo I was given the task of cleaning it.
I made such a thorough job of it that even though it had been owned by several people in the UK, and of course any owners in Japan, I discovered a Japanese coin which though I don't have access to it at the moment was quite possibly an 100 yen piece.
So out of interest I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a common practice with Mazda and if anyone else had found a lucky yen coin within their Bongo.

Re: Lucky Coin
Yep, they are usually under the front edge of the rear carpets, behind the front seats.
Most will be removed by converters, which may explain why they are rich. .

Re: Lucky Coin
Haven't found one in Bongy or MX5.
Without my glasses I read it as Lucky Colin.

Ours was originally converted for a previous owner by 321Away so maybe they either didn't find it at the conversion or left them in.
Is it an MX-5 or a Eunos, since it's only the Eunos apparently.
Yup, Mazda used to provide a Lucky Colin with every vehicle as the forerunner to voice activation in cars (as an aside, even though I tend not to wear them - I'm the same about misreading things without my glasses ).
Re: Lucky Coin
I’ve just been out & searched mine from top to bottom ......& all I’ve found is this million £ note. Oh well......
Re: Lucky Coin
With interest that will be worth 1/6d by next week.
Re: Lucky Coin
I was chasing an intermittent rattle/vibration from the front right dashboard area for months when I first got the Bongo. Sometimes it would disappear for weeks & I would think its gone then it would appear again. By chance one morning when I was scraping ice off the windscreen I caught a glimpse of something in the gap between the dashboard & windscreen area, managed to fish it out with some welding rod & i had found the cause of the rattle, a Japanese coin, it wasn't a Yen, it appeared to be some sort of gaming machine token/coin.
