Bosch 4 wire lambda sensor for 2003 2L petrol
Has anyone used one of these, my bongo has fault code PO135 saying that there is a fault on the sensor heater circuit, the van runs fine maybe a bit more thirsty but difficult to tell
Re: Bosch 4 wire lambda sensor for 2003 2L petrol
I think if it’s faulty it will probably run richer
Re: Bosch 4 wire lambda sensor for 2003 2L petrol
The heater circuit is used to get the O2 sensor to working temp quickly so the engine management system can get into Closed Loop faster and take control of the fueling.
However once the exhaust has brought the sensor uo to working temp there will be no difference in fueling providing the sensor side is working correctly of course. Having said that the life of a sensor with a failed heater circuit will be reduced because of carbon build up from the richer initial fueling.
As far as I am aware there is nothing special about the Bongo sensor so any 4 wire Zirconia type should do the job although you may find wiring colors differ.
Universal O2 sensors have a bad rep as they were bucketted in from China and the like so you might want to check out Intermotor or SMP help line and see what they recommend in there range. Genuine Mazda sensors are expensive but good quality after market manufacturers are out there. I would stay away from Ebay and the like.

Thanks do you know of anyone using the Bosch ones that are a replacement but you have to wire them to your old plug
Re: Bosch 4 wire lambda sensor for 2003 2L petrol
Not Bosch specifically but we used to fit universal types to various vehicles when price was a consideration. As these were normally supplied without a plug you transferred the old plug to the new unit. I am surevGeoff will be able to help with color codes.

I've no details on these, they all seem to vary, there have been other posts in the past about adapting various makes/models.

As far as I can tell there is no after-market alternative if your chassis number is later than SGEW-602938 or SGE3-600128. These later models need a genuine Mazda 4-wire model which are expensive. I've spoken to Bongo experts Dore Service Station in Sheffield about this and that's their opinion.

All the 4 wire sensors do exactly the same thing so it would just be a case of right thread and altering the connections
Re: Bosch 4 wire lambda sensor for 2003 2L petrol
I read an old post that said some of the newer 2.0L have an OBD 2 socket just to the left of the steering column. Cancelled the code using a basic reader and all appears to be well the diagnostic socket is such a pain
