What is this?

Post by francophile1947 » Wed Feb 21, 2007 3:05 pm

Hi all
I appear to have a leak, of some sooty stuff, from the curved metal pipe in the photo, where it joins the manifold.
Is this pipe part of the EGR system?
Sorry for poor quality picture - I had to use my webcam cos' my card reader has bust!

I feel a "blanking off" coming up.

Hi Maxter
I took the "technical" route as a temporary measure.
Undid the 2 bolts, plus one on the clip half way along the pipe, lifted the pipe a little and put a 2p piece over the hole. Put it all back together and tried it. It actually seems to run better, but I'll know more when I've given it a longer run. If no problems I'll make a proper blanking plate.

Ideally all that pipework, diaphragm and control stuff could come out if you could permanently seal the entries for the inlet and outlet manifolds. It would make for working on the engine a lot easier. It's just having the inclination to get stuck in .....
