Re: The Rust Directory
Finally finished the inner arch the welding is not that pretty combination of galvanised panels and upside down welding but it’s strong and once the seam sealer and under seal is applied it won’t notice plus it’s underneath onto the rear xmember next then down the other side
Re: The Rust Directory
Looks solid, well done.
Re: The Rust Directory
Some photos or the rear xmember going to cut out completely have had a complete panel made by a mate don’t understand why people don’t get their bongos undersealed as soon as they are imported the background rust looks quite bad but it’s not really it will cut back then a good dose of converter then underseal
Re: The Rust Directory
You're making a big difference!
Luckily there aren't many that are beyond repair.
This is a rear crossmember. The tow bar ripped off it. I removed and replaced it, prepped the rest of the underside and undersealed.

Re: The Rust Directory
Looks nasty it seems a weird set up at the back with osr bumper mount nicely part of the chassis leg but near side is part of the xmember might alter it a bit if it’s not too much ag
Re: The Rust Directory
The original crossmembers are only spot welded. Bongos were not originally designed to tow, so worth strengthening.

Re: The Rust Directory
Virtually finished the rear xmember but will be putting a tow bar on it and didn’t like the design so I made a copy of the osr mount which is an extension of the chassis leg took a lot more time but worth it in the end I’ll probably have fun with the exhaust but at least the tow bar won’t fall of
Re: The Rust Directory
2 more
Re: The Rust Directory
Onto the os front now almost all round the bongo now
Re: The Rust Directory
Pretty much finished ns front inner and outer sill will start os tomorrow
Re: The Rust Directory
Coming on a treat.
Re: The Rust Directory
Finally finished the welding I’ve been pretty much all around the bongo so it’s integrity has been restored and improved in one area. Now to de scale the surface rust in the rear section I did buy a shot blaster with vacuum for this task but have gone back to old school manual grinding as the blasting is painfully slow then I can get on with finishing the transplant the last photo shows the nsr chassis leg extension to match osr for tow bar mounting.
Re: The Rust Directory
Sorry 2nd photo is tow bar mount
Re: The Rust Directory
Almost there with the descaling another day and will be ready for converter then underseal have bought some dinitrol as well to do all the cavities so the old bongo will be solid
