Hi all, so Ive drained and flushed the system and have come to do the water pump this morning.
So, leaving the belts tight and even tightening them up the pulley is slipping on the belt so as i try and undo the 4 bolts the pulley slips round. Now what??
You need to use something ( a lever of some sort )to fit between the bolt heads to stop the pulley from turning, as you slacken them off ,leave in place until the last bolt is slack.
Couldnt get purchase with the bars I have, ended up with a suggestion from the facebook group where using a bar to artificially tighten the belt levering against a solid non breakable part of the engine and did the job! thank you for your suggestion though
Posting this for people that may do a search when tackling a waterpump for the first time like me
The instructions talk of 2 nuts and one short bolt and using a cardboard template to keep them in order. So you can see in the photo I traced the pump (as it sits on the front of the engine) onto a cardboard piece and pushed each bolt through as it came out. I have marked the nut in the top right, the short bolt you can see arrowed but you can also see on bottom left what I suspect is the other nut but the whole stud came out with it. Hoping thats not a problem now!.
wondering if i should take that nut off and reinsert the stud properly before refitting it? also the shaft of that stud had engine oil on it so hoping thats not an issue!
