Seats like a bear trap!!

Post by Simmy » Fri Apr 10, 2020 5:09 pm

Hi all.
I have stripped down the rear bench seat to the metal base as I want to make a flat bed as I already have all the foam etc to do this. One thing I am wanting to do though is to make the seat not go off like a bear trap! Is there any way to soften the way it opens and closes? All help is greatly appreciated

What I eventually did was to remove the rear seat entirely. I built something resembling a small table at the same height as the folded down seat and find this more comfortable and ideal for storing small items underneath. I replaced 4 seat anchor bolts with eye bolts made for rally belts/harness. I use a cargo net when travelling to hold everything securely. I have used 4 climbing carabineer clips to secure the cargo net to the eye bolts. Works well for me but may not suit others. Biggest problem was getting my insurance company to agree with removing rear seat.

Hi thanks for your reply.
I still need to keep the seat as my son uses it when were travelling.
I am making something very similar in this link
https://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/threads/mak ... d.1068753/
It is a mazda bongo bench seat used in this van.
I do also have a base I have made at the same height which will make a 6ft bed when lay flat. I will post again when I have the finished article but it is hard to get supplies at the moment but as all us bongo owners know there is always something to fix or upgrade
