Won’t start

Recently purchased our first bingo 1996 diesel. Got it all road worthy and just completed a 500 mile trip round wales without a hitch was brilliant. Now it’s been parked up since last Sunday on a drive with a slight incline and it appears the fuel has ran back to the tank and obviously wouldn’t start. After priming started back up and is fine. What would be causing this. Is there a secondary lift pump or In tank pump that has failed?

Any help would be appreciated so I know where to start looking Thanks

I think I've read this can be linked to leaking fuel pump seals (v common on old diesel pumps). So whilst they might allow fuel to leak out in most circumstances, they can allow air in when on an incline and fuel wanting to drain back to tank. But I'm no techie so hopefully someone more knowledgable can comment. Sounds to me though like seals need doing.

Ok thanks least that gives me something to start with. Again it’s been fine all weekend once it’s being used regular

I've seen that it's possible to change the most suspect fuel pump seal without the need for a cam belt change. I haven't done this (unfortunately some years back a garage charged me a lot of money to do the latter without consulting me) but you should be able to find the technique with an internet search. Good luck!
