I’m going to do a service next week so will order a fuel filter too. Must remember to fill up new filter with diesel as it took ages to get it going last year. Are the ones from bongo spares ok as that is where the last one was from?

Been out in it today - a quick burble on startup, then 5 or 6 attempts, then a bit lumpy for 30 seconds. Stopped at two places - Halfords and to get fuel and it started first turn of the key.

Could that really hot day have caused the problem as it started happening after that?

Cheers.

I have put clips on the return fuel line that was dripping and it doesn’t drip any more when I pump the primer - it was almost a continuous stream this morning. Started consistently 4 or 5 times.

I tend to agree that it isn’t the glow plugs, although I think they need doing, as it seems as soon as it gets fuel it perks up like a young whippersnapper, ready to launch on another adventure. Sounds good ticking over and isn’t lumpy or erratic. Nice.

Have cleaned all the diesel spill away so will check in the morning to see if it starts, and if it still smells. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the help!
Sam

Missed this bit earlier, that is very strange that priming the pump should result in a leak from the return/leak off pipe.

Pressure build up? If the system is air tight then it wouldn’t leak.

Ha ha, it looks like you know more about diesel fuel injection than me. =D> =D> =D>

Probably not! Just a suggestion. Seems to have stopped leaking now. Will try fuel filter.

It's still annoying me why fuel should come from the leak-off pipe when you use the hand primer, that pipe is coming from the high-pressure spill side of the injection system. It might be worthwhile having a wee word with your local Diesel Shop for a bit of advice.

Take care.

Here’s a twist, it started first time this morning. It was a bit colder, a bit damper and I had the ignition on for a few minutes before, but still odd. Maybe the Wynns diesel injector cleaner is doing its magic????

Appreciate the thoughts! Afraid to try it again now - a Bongo is only as good as its last start.

Tried it again tonight to lift the lid. Turned key and nothing but a click. All the lights on dash are fine but just a click. Hmmmmm, can’t be dead battery as I had isolated and just connected back up. Must be electrics this time so wiggled the gear selector to make sure contacts are made, pressed the hold button a few times and, boom, fires up instantly on key turn. Monster.

I think I have a fickle bongo, but I’m learning her ways.

It could be the the interlock switch on the gearbox is not being put in the right place by the selector cable, its to prevent you starting in gear, but if the cable stretches or changes it might need re-adjustment.
