The Oldest Bongo Still On The Road
Re: The Oldest Bongo Still On The Road
Grace's birthday is 1st Oct. First registered in 1995, UK reg'd in 2005. So She will soon be 21 !!! Has a few aches and pains (don't we all?) and her waterworks play up from time to time, but I try to look after her with the help of my friendly 'bongoman' Victor (ace mechanic!!)
Re: The Oldest Bongo Still On The Road
We're new Bongo owners, and found this fascinating.
We knew our new Bongo was 1995, and the green slip says first registered 1/9/95. The Russian site says manufactured on 24/8/95. Current mileage is 158,000 km near-enough. Just under 100,000 miles. Not bad eh? Better than our 2003 Alhambra with 233,000 miles on the clock - will it last for ever??

Sorry Harry. Newest one we have on record in UK is SGEW-607288 which rolled off the production line on 30/11/05, a full 22 days after yours.

Just browsing, and thought I'd resurrect this thread.
I've just purchased an M reg, Ford Freda 2wd diesel.
Waiting for the V5 to come back, then I'll enter the chassis number....interesting.
Great site, spend far too long on here gleaning information.

Di, who lives in Tunbridge Wells, has been in touch to say that here Bongo is SGL3-100008. This makes it the oldest surviving Bongo in the UK, and quite possibly the world! It was manufactured on 9th May 1995 which was the day after production began.

Wow! Tell her to cherish it and not let it rust away. Should we club together and buy it as a gate guardian for Bongo Towers.?
Re: The Oldest Bongo Still On The Road
Not sure a Bongo would like to be sat there with a stick in it's bottom.

Hi Bongonoauts. Our ancient Bonzo is a black Montague conversion. It’s in a pretty good condition for its age. We’ve had it for just over a year and bought if off our neighbour who decamped to the VW brand! I’ve mainly used it for attending art courses and exhibitions in the south east. Hopefully next year we can get to some bongomeets and meet you all. Di from T Wells

Just thought I'd add an update. I've got a 2006 Black Aero on way from Japan Chassis no. SGEW607300. According to this it looks like it might be newest one to hit the uk.
