Hi all,
glow plug timer relay clicks occasionally from time to time and only the way how to get rid off it is shift to Neutral and then back to Drive while Im driving. Timer is set to 8sec and it is surprisingly works as glow plug relay under bonnet clicks after 8sec after an ignition is turned on. Glow plugs are brand new and engine starts easy on firts crank.
I am wondering the reason why it clicks even though engine is fully warm.
Any ideas ?
Thanks a lot

I'm not sure I can explain the click you hear but 8 seconds is a very short time for power to be supplied to the glow plug rail. Typically, from cold, you would be looking at 5 minutes or so. I wonder if the timer you have is somehow confusing the system that controls power to the rail.
The reason power is supplied for so long is to help emissions.
The orange light that comes on with the ignition and then goes out after a few seconds (signifying you can start the engine) does not indicate that power is going to the glow plug rail. You hear a click when it goes out and then a second click when power to the rail is cut off.
I know this as we have a dashboard light showing when power is going to the rail.

If it is a "glow plug" timer it is probably confusing the ECU, glow/heater plugs are controlled through the ECU, they are triggered by engine speed and engine temperature . In actual fact they could be on all day, this is the way they were designed. Personally I cant imagine knowing how you could determine what setting to use, a turbo timer is a different kettle of fish.
You could check the voltage at the GP/H rail to confirm that they are switching off.
