Bongo 2.5 td revving issues (smoke)

Post by h22_dan » Sat Aug 18, 2018 4:17 pm

Hello all , looking into some advise please.

my bongo wont rev (or struggles to rev above 2000 revs on idle , and lots of smoke , greyish whitish blueish :/

recently changed glow plugs and wouldn't start , then borrowed a working solenoid , fired straight up , idles fine but as soon as you rev it up past 1800-2000 rpm it kinda misfires , shakes, hunts and kicks out this smoke? it was last driven around 18months ago to the body shop where it drove fine. and then I drove it home the other week and it was hesitant to go over 50mph? could it be the fact its sat up for so long? ive checked oil and fuel and added new fuel but still nothing.

could this be egr related?

many thanks

It would be worthwhile cleaning out the fuel tank and all filters and suction and return lines.

What year is the Bongo? I'm just thinking that later models have fancier (variable vane?) turbos, which might be an extra factor to consider. Other than that (and ensuring relevant vacuum pipes to the turbo are secured and not leaking), and if its not got fuel starvation problems, then pump/injectors could be implicated maybe? I assume its not using any coolant ?
