confused regards 'Hold Light' advice!

Post by SimonD » Tue Jun 26, 2018 6:49 pm

Hello,

New member here, though I have read a lot here over the years.

Long story short
Our '98 2.5TD 4wd has developed a slow steady flashing hold light.
I begins under two miles from cold.
Freda goes into limp mode (or what seems like it) when it comes on.

In the members FAQ, there is a paragraph further down the page that states that a slow steady flashing hold light will likely be 'Speed Sensor problem'.

I have also read knowledgable posters (The Mcfadden guide for one) who say that the flashing hold light is merely an indication of a problem, and that the codes Diagnostic box must be read.
I did that by shorting GND and TAT , and then reading the Hold light again and got a distinct, repeated '6 long, three short' = error 63 ' - Coverter lock up solenoid valve'

Question 1.
Which of the above methods of interpreting a slow steady hold light might be the correct one - the advice apparently conflicts?!

Question 2.
Where /which exactly is the Coverter lock up solenoid valve'?
Is it included in the 'Solenoid Packs' that I have seen for sale. I see the 3x shift solenoids and one other device?
e.g.

Any help greatly appreciated!

A flashing Glowplug or Flashing Hold light indicates that the ECU or ATX computers are reporting faults - nothing else can be assumed, you have to read the code to find out what its reporting. There are common faults that everyone will shout out as the cause, but its simply what they suffered and not necessarily what your suffering!

As to your code and location of the solenoids I'll leave to one of the engine/ATX guys to comment on, I deal in electrons only ;-)

Hi Simon,

In answer to which solenoid is which and where they are have a look at the posts I've added to the Transmission not changing up to 4th and lock-up not working thread.
