Roof help!

Post by JodieandAnt » Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:29 pm

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any help!
Our poor Bertie has been sitting up most of the winter, he has now been sorted, some welding, TLC and MOT’d etc and we’re desperate to enjoy him again!

We went to put up the AFT roof the other day and it wouldn’t go up! It’s always worked, although sometimes groaned but we’ve made sure it was greased etc before the winter. The seal is a little ropey but I’ve run a card around it to make sure that’s free.

so when you turn the ignition on and press the open button it beeps but doesn’t open.
I’ve checked the handbrake, this is also lit up on dash board, it’s in park, on flat ground and checked fuses.

Doesn’t sound like the motors are engaging when i press the button.

Are there any other simple things to check and what is anyone’s advice? I read somewhere about latches, could this be a problem and where are they is it’s a possibility?

Thanks again for any help

Jodie

The most common problem is a set of corroded motors, leave them without use and condensation sets in. They NEED frequent use!!!
Try the following - first download, read the factsheet on motor cleaning, then get everything you need ready and make sure you have time to do it.
Then toggle the Up/Down switch a LOT of times, hopefully this will cause the motor to swivel to and fro and clear the worst of the corrosion out the way, with luck the roof may start to lift eventually, in which case help it gently to the top, prop it up and then drop the motors for cleaning. If this doesn't work, then the only other way is a very difficult release of the hinge bolts at the rear and to slowly jack-up the rear of the AFT to reach the motors.
