A/C system

Post by TheLongRoad » Mon May 28, 2018 9:49 pm

What type of gas is used in the 2002 Era Bongo A/C system, R12 or the more environmentally friendly R134a stuff? I can see a HP port, can you point me as to where to find the LP port. Cheers

funny story, the lp point is located behind the rads you can access from the left side at the front of the rads and reach down behind (like you are trying to give a reach around to a rather large woman)

anyhoo funny story goes, did an a/c refresh 4 weeks ago and then just over a week ago it was blowing hot, bloody annoying, i located a leak at the pipes leading into the rear heater and changed the o rings on them, that sorted that, a tiny bit of oil came out and i thought "it'll be fine" :D .... it wasn't   #-o
the little bit of oil turned out to be all of it and the system only takes 14ml of PAG 46 ( the low viscosity stuff) so i had a lovely weekend in les vosges mountains near the german border and the aircon was working great untill we were just about to head back, then the squealing started,
As soon as it started i pulled over and did the usual rigmarol of checking the engine and promptly identified the a/c pump as making the horrible pig noise [-X so it was a rather warm 2hour journey home 8)

so yesterday at lunch time i regassed the systeme ,again for third time, and this time got the machine to put the oil in, 40euros for a 500ml bottle and i used 15ml  gave the back of the a/c pulley a bit a lube and thankfully i haven't wreaked the pump

When you gas the system make sure you put the oil in too or you'll end up with a pig in your engine bay
