Replace short seat rails for long rails?

Post by captain_badger » Fri Apr 20, 2018 10:35 pm

Hi all. Is this possible? I vaguely recall reading somewhere that it is. I'd like to replace my rear gull wing seats for an additional sliding bench to make more boot space for a rear kitchen pod.

Will my middle bench seat runners still work on long rails, or would I need to change the runners too?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can fit long rails in place of the short ones, and your existing middle seat will fit on these with no modification.

However, I'm not sure fitting a second bench seat will give you more useable space.

Thanks Bob.

How come? Can't I move the rear bench forward a touch to give me a bit more depth in the boot?

Yes, you can slide the middle seat until it touches the fronts, then slide the new rear right up to the middle one, but I think the 'gull wing' seats will give more room in the boot when flipped up.

If you don't use them they could be removed, and if you do lift out the middle seat to fit new runners be aware it's heavy, definitely a 2 preson job.

If you can I'd try and have a look at one with the two benches and then decide what to do, possibly come to a Meet.

Maybe captain_badger has a full width kitchen unit that you access from the outside by standing under the tailgate. If this is the case the gull-wing seats will have to be removed.

Thanks chaps.

I see the confusion Bob. I actually need the back seats you see, but I've found the Gull Wing type don't quite give me enough room in the back. Otherwise it'd be lovely to just flip one up. Unfortunately my girlfriend and I have 4 kids between us, so we need all the seats for sitting and sleeping.

Long term plan is to cut down both benches and move the offside rail in to make a side conversion but in the meantime I need a quick solution for this summer. I've bought all the kitchen bits I need for a rear pod but I was just disappointed to find I didn't have as much room back there as I'd hoped.

So... anybody know where I can get my hands on a rear bench seat with runners? I have secured some rails already.

Best bet is the convertors who advertise on here, or a breaker like Bongo Spares, unless someone is doing a self conversion. [-o<

See where you're coming from now. :D

Plenty seats on Ebay, it would be advisable to look at the ones you could probably collect owing to the weight costs for delivery.

Have a look the the website Shpock, (car boot sale type website. There is an app too) they are always being advertised on there.
