Rear differential oil change

Post by Roy748 » Mon Apr 09, 2018 10:15 pm

Hello fellow bongo owners.
I am about to change the differential oil in my 2001 2.0ltr petrol areocity but am a little confused, I read that I need to ascertain if i have a limited slip differential or not. Looking for the yellow sticker/paint mark proved unsuccessful. I then looked on the advised Russian website and entered in my chassis number, where it returned
Номер кузоваSGE3-3...... Дата выпуска18.04.2001 кстерьер A3D Интерьер SD0 Сидения STO Тип  дверей TDF Grade AERO
универсал, auto free top , бензин, 2000, AT, side スカート ツキ, normal differential , 2WD, with hyper seat
Have no idea what all the other information given means
Only I thought mine was a 4WD. So I ask do I have a limited slip differential or not as this returned normal.
I believe I need either SAE 90 GL6 with limited slip or SAE 90 GL5 without LSD
Many thanks in advance

It will be none lsd and 2wd if a 2 litre petrol, but tbh most gl5 oils come with friction modifiers anyway these days and are suitable for lsd units. I've ran both plate and helical lsd units in my race car and we use gl5 spec oils. Don't worry about it.

If it starts understeering then just add a friction modifier to that oil. lol

yep the 2.0 does not hve an lsd, i just done the diff oil 2 weeks ago. Buy yourself 2lts of 75/90 and be sure to take the filler plug out first before the drain plug. And it'll stink like hell to make sure you dont have a hangover or you'll see your breakfast real quick

Hello Knpenny and Billy bongo
Thanks both for your replies, I check today and too my suprise I am only 2 wheel drive..
Knpenny you say buy 75/90 may I ask what oil you are referring too, is that GL5.
Today I pretty much finished hammeriting followed by wax/oiling the underside. Dirty job but pleased it's done now.

Glad I changed my 4x4 diff oils as the stuff that came out was very brown and stunk. I put new oil in it, ran it for a few months and then changed the oils again. Used the first change oil as a 'flush' so to speak.
I bought 5 litres of 75/90 from EuroCarParts - they have sales on most of the time ;)
