Turbo query

I’m hoping that someone can put my mind at rest but I’m worried about the turbo on my van.

Out of the blue my van has started to make a ‘whistling/whining’ noise when the engine is under pressure. The turbo kicks in and the noise starts, let my foot off and it stops. There is no loss of power and the van accelerators away fine. I’m convinced it’s a turbo issue but can anyone tell me if the turbo is on it’s way out or is it more likely to be a leaking hose?
I’m hoping it’s the latter.

Possibly the No 1 exhaust manifold stud/bolt broken.

Common problem giving a jolly shriek, fiddly but not as dear as a new turbo.

As for rain, reading the Mendip Times reminds me it's 50 years since the 'Great Flood'.

I swear the marker in the Old Inn, Congresbury, moves up 6" with every new landlord.

Well at long last I’ve got round to having a look at this problem. Bob, you were spot on, it was a lower broken no.1 manifold stud.
I made a start on taking things apart and thought I’d check the one above the broken one. Big mistake as that one broke off as well!! I left it there and began the plan of trying to remove both studs from the head. Oh my god, what a pain of a job, especially the lower one. I’ve taken the skin off of every finger!! Trying to drill a hole in the broken end for the stud extractor was an absolute nightmare. It wasn’t possible to get a drill close enough so had to use an extension which meant it was difficult to put enough pressure on to drill the hole as well as not being able to see through the manifold hole.
After an hour and a half of cursing I eventually got both out. New studs inserted and tightened up. Problem solved!

Moral of the story is that I’ve learnt a lot today, got sore fingers but a healthy Bongo again. Hats off to those mechanics that do this on a regular basis and live with sore fingers.
