Rear light cluster removal

Post by zebedee » Sun Mar 25, 2018 3:52 pm

Hi I'm a returning Bongo fan trying to do a bit of the work on the beast myself. I seem to have sprung a leak into the light cluster on the tailgate and can't figure out how to remove it. I've removed nuts from two thin pointed screws and two plastic bolts from the edge of the cluster inside and still can't get much movement. I noticed a white plastic clip and wondered if this needs to be pushed out or does the whole panel over the light cluster need to come off. Basically aaarrrrrggghhhh.

I have the same problem getting the rear light cluster from the tailgate of my 1999 model. I’ve removed the 2 black bolts at the edge, removed the door card, removed the 2 brass bolts inboard but I still can’t release the cluster. I thought it would more or less slide out but that’s putting a strain on the silvered plastic panel that extends across the midline of the light cluster. I can’t see how to remove the cluster or the silver panel. The schematic implies there is another screw to be removed from the cluster but I can’t see it!
