Battery replacement - non standard size 096

Post by Jimbo1982 » Thu Mar 22, 2018 3:33 pm

Hi all, my Freda battery died and I wasn't able to get hold of an exact replacement - however I have got a very good Yuasa 096 80Ah battery which fits nicely in the tray.

However, as it is not as tall as the original battery, the metal battery clamps dont fit properly. I've used some wood as a spacer but I'm not sure if this is secure enough to pass an MOT.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? And is there another vehicle which has suitable battery brackets which I might be able to get hold of?

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Cheers

You could use 2 metal tube spacers between the securing nut and the bracket with appropriate washers, or fit something under the battery to raise it.

Take care

As long as it is secure it shouldn't really matter.

I had a land rover which had a loose battery for years until one year it was pulled up. I just made a clamp using a step of metal and two threaded rods
