Wheel spacers

Post by Razor » Sun Dec 17, 2017 12:00 am

What is the best way to fit wheels with a centre bore of 64.1 onto my bongo that is 67.1 with the same 114.3 spacing .
Thanks in advance,

I have read of people getting the wheel turned on a large lathe - but personally I'd not do that as the whole weight of the Bongo is supported by the centre bore and not the studs. Another alternative is the creation of some adapters / spacers but it will be very expensive for a one off job from an engineering business. The spacers will also add load to the wheel bearing and possibly you might have clearance issues depending on wheel width, Probably the answer is getting wheels that fit exactly.

And your insurance company will need to be told of the 'modification'.

I’m looking to put 225/55/17 from a freelander 1 the load rating is 580kg per wheel so that should be fine I have been told you can get spacers for that size,.
Thanks for your feedbacks

Glad you've found the info.

If you have a link or contact for the spacers it may well help others, many peeps do like to up-grade to alloys. 8)

Spacers are available but at a cost do just short of £200 so I have decided to look at other options, have seen some Mazda RX8wheels and tyres 225/45/r18 but not sure on load rating ?any ideas anyone out there.

Thanks. :)

Not cheap, but useful to know they can be had, and I can see why your looking at options. Good info. 8)

Hi Cutlass, My first post here. I translate into Russian below, apologies for mistakes. I have just bought an old 4WD Bongo Friendee that I want to put larger tyres on, maybe 215/80/15 for better offroad use. How did you lift your Bongo? Bigger springs or spring spacers? Did you also use wheel spacers to fit the 30x9.5x15 tyres? I like how that looks. Any information appreciated. I will look at the mikrob.ru website, do many in Russia lift the 4wd Bongo up? Cheers!

Hi Cutlass, wow that is a lot of work! I can get Landcruiser 80 springs easily, but the rest seems difficult for me at this stage. I may look to use slightly larger tyres in the 215/75/15 or 215/80/15 range and find some spring spacers to lift maybe 25mm. I am impressed by the engineering on your Bongo! I will try the easy route for now and use 215/75/15 or 215/80/15 tyres only I think. Thanks for the link and good health to you.

at front - not interesting - you must install that https://baza.drom.ru/vladivostok/sell_s ... 74071.html rear - you must install dooble springs into base springs Image
you must buy front spring from VAZ 1111 Imageor rear from VAZ 2108 (it must cut!!!!!) or try open spring catalogue and find next size springs: D wire=10,1mm D internall=74,0mm H=317,7mm and rubber plate Image

Ah this looks easier. I understand this better. We have lots of Landcruiser 80 springs here. I found a spring for a Lada Samara - same as Vaz 2108 I believe.

Now I have welding to do on front crossmember and wheel arches, and will try for larger tyres soon. Thank you for the photos. I may contact you in a few weeks if progress is good! большое спасибо.
