Thermostat swap

Post by Bongo66 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 3:29 pm

Hi All
Newbie to this forum and Bongos
Just bought a 1999 2.0l petrol/lpg Auto freetop. Looks sounds and runs like a dream, the only slight niggle I can see is a potential tiny oil leak on the front of the engine passenger side where the head meets the crank case (probably) is this a major issue or a simple fix.
Also I have read that the coolant system can fail, so I was looking at changing the thermostat and would like some photos if any has any. Temp sit around the 1/4 mark.

TIA

Hi

Not that familiar with the 2 ltr petrol engine, but the diesels generaly weep a little oil from that area.

If it's very slight and the level on the dip stick isn't dropping I wouldn't worry.

Regards the cooling system the V6 and diesels must be bled after any work or leak (properly, and this is vital) but the 2 ltr is the same as any other vehicle.

Keep an eye on things, and change the coolant as per service schedule and you should be fine. :)

New thermostat should be simple enough.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.
