Hi All
We've been having problems with closing the auto roof on the bongo of late, particularly when it's been up for a while.
When it comes to pressing the button for closing, the beeping starts but nothing happens when you press and hold the button to actually close it. No motor noise, no sound (except for the beeping) ...... nothing. It's almost as if there is no wire connection to the button. Then, after a fare few attempts it suddenly starts working and closes normally without any problems. It's a little disconcerting especially as we're planning a trip to The Alps in September in it and could do with getting it sorted before we go.
The handbrake is fully on and the light for it shows up on the dash. Any ideas what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance
Mrs M

Re: Auto Roof Closing Problems
I had this also. I think the first (and easy to sort) suspect should be the up/down switch. Buy some Comma electrical contact spray cleaner

...and some cotton stick ear buds. Remove the switch (it is easily prised from the headlining and then there is a connector), dismantle with care on a tray on the kitchen table ( it's not hard but note how the contact rocker arm needs positioning during reassembly), spray contact cleaner on the cotton bud and use that to clean grime etc off the contacts. Hopefully, when you put everything back the switch will operate the roof at the lightest touch.
The electric lifting roof is always a bit of a concern on old Bongos and you'd be wise to research what needs to be done in case of failure and take with you the instructions, Allen keys and some rope, just in case!
