Well, after some heavy weeding and an evening with Excel and cheese I have managed to set up a sheet using Bills formulas and the answer is 42.

Decided I'd have a bit of fun in retirement creating the above mentioned formula in Excel and trying it out on some hypothetical cases. V rough and endless arguments can be had about accuracy / realistic values etc but here's what came out:

.....which I thought was quite interesting, as I had no idea what figures would come out. Keeping your vehicle for a long time matters it seems, from this argument. And it is interesting to consider how much energy it takes (and pollution it causes) to create a new vehicle. Mind you, we're into weird territory there, as that would imply huge downscaling of an industry and the jobs that it provides, and that in turn would have uncertain outcomes.

I've long thought the scrappage scheme was little to do with polution and a lot to do with the Sacred Cow, car jobs. Even if a lot are outside the UK.

The outcome would indeed be difficult to predict, but they shouldn't brand us as enviromental terrorists as part of their agenda. :twisted:

I guarantee the eco warriors will be vandalising diesel vehicles now they've been drip fed the Green Wash. :roll:

That's not enviromentaly friendly, is it? And as for 'action films' ie nothing but destruction for entertainment... :evil:
