Turbo Boost Hiss

Post by G-meister » Thu Mar 23, 2017 8:10 pm

Hi all,

Wondering if anybody has experienced a hissing sound on turbo boost? Happens under load above 2k RPM. Proving very difficult to find!

It's separate to the usual turbo whine which has always been there and is normal.

Had no1 exhaust stud fixed but wasn't that. Would like to find out if there's a common fault I may be missing, maybe on the intercooler circuit somewhere.

Thanks

Wow. what a coincidence.
I have what sounds like the same thing on mine and was considering posting the same question.

Sounds a bit like air rushing through a metal pipe, (hard to describe a noise :D ) only dose it under a reasonable load and above about 2k

Though I had found it last week when I found one of the hose clamps lose on the turbo but made no difference.
Doesn't seem to be effecting the performance and may even be normal as I wouldn't know any different having not had the Bongo long.

Will watch this post with interest and sorry for hijacking.

Cheers
Ian

Almost certainly a leak on the pressure side circuit somewhere, typically a split hose. You need to check all the hoses & pipes from the turbocharger, down to the intercooler & from the intercooler to the inlet manifold. I will lay money one is split of coming off a pipe.

It is of course theoretically possible the intercooler is split but I have never heard of this.
