Rear Heater Blanking Kit
Hi,
had some rather heated trouble with corroded pipes recently, so decide to block off the rear heater matrix. I've bought a blanking kit from mr maynards lovely shop, which is the official mazda thing, with simply 2 caps to go on the pipes feeding the matrix, .
But, my question is where on the pipes? One is obvious (I hope) as there's a drawing showing it on the pipe under the passenger seat.
but the other cap, I can't find on a drawing. I'm guessing it's on the rear side of the t junction under the drivers side that connects to the heater matrix (the junction that is notorious for corroding), but wanted to check before I make a mess....

You would probably be better asking mr maynards where exactly the parts are to be fitted.

Yeah, that picture is for the cap that's under the passenger seat side. It's the other cap that I'm not so sure about.
As I say, my guess is the back of the t junction on the other side, but it'd be good to confirm with someone before I start tinkering...

If it is the AC then they are here on the near side about centre of the sliding door..

If it is water matrix then you need to loop the system else you will affect the coolant flow.
The image Ian has is the AC I believe ?
Geoff has a picture of the water pipework runs from Widowson I believe.
IAN. Is there a kit to block off the rear AC if yes can you point me to it on the Bongo Shop.

All sorted, caps in place, coolant reloaded and bled. Van working perfectly again. Coolant system is working just fine.
The reason for wanting to disconnect it is because the metal pipes feeding the rear heater are corroded and in the 10 years I've had the van I've never used the rear heating system, so easier to disconnect than faff about replacing pipes. And it simplified the whole system, so making things more reliable.
Interestingly, the rear heater is an optional extra so the pipework is more exposed than other pipes. Hence the additional corrosion around these bits.
And yes, these caps are definitely for the coolant system, not the AC. There are three pipes running parallel in the lushprojects diagram. 2 are for AC. One is for coolant. It's the return pipe coming back from the heater, and the caps fitted like a glove. The other cap i put on the rear of the junction on the driver's side as I had planned. It seems the only logical place, and works well. It doesn't affect the cooling system overall as the front and rear heater systems run in parallel so taking one heater out does not affect the flow. There's a really cool thread kicking around showing the coolant system in detail with animated diagrams. Really handy.
Capping off the AC is a much more tricky affair. There is a thread about that too. I haven't bothered to do that, the AC doesn't work anyway nowadays.

So you have capped the ends of the coolant pipes after the two tee junctions. Have I got that right?

Hi I’m trying to blank my rear heater as the pipes are leaking and I never use the rear heater. The kit come with 2 plugs but I’m not sure where you put them. The T end of the pipe splits into the rear heater and into the engine and then the return pipe that runs under the passenger seat. But there’s only 2 plugs and Can anyone help me pleases. The pipe that goes into the engine from the T end dose this get blank aswell?

Thankyou for the replay/pictures The leak is coming from the middle of the t joint so I will need to replace the pipe as blanking the end won’t help. Or I mite try cutting the pipe down And see if I can put a L shape bend to fit.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but, if you use those caps, that means that both the pipes in red are removed completely, or not?

Maybe i'm confused but those pipes in RED 61-2D1/2 are for the aircon cooling matrix not the coolant pipes going to the heating matrix ?
Remember you have both heating - engine coolant system - and aircon cooling system - refrigerant piping going to the cooling matrix.
