Just done me water pump and thermostat
Rather awkward to get at both
But me new belts are different to old the new is toothed on the inside the old 3 belts are just v shaped
Do I use the new ones or not ?

And the aircon belt seems shorter as the tensioner pully will be a lot further in

The notched belts just allow for use tighter/smaller diameter pulley wheels, as long as the length number is the same you should have no problems.
Make sure the "vee" is the same size though and if two belts run the same thing from the same pulley they should be a matched pair.

I have two 13x1100 water pump / alt belts old belts are 1090
And one. 13x1000 belt only numbers I can see on this old belt is 965
Maybe they will slot in will try again on Saturday
Rad and washer bottle gone back on today starting to get there
Gona have to buy a house with a driveway one day , bugger doing all this at side of road

The belts are definitely the wrong size
Air con one won't even go over the 2 pulleys with out even using the 3rd tensioner pulley
Had to put the old 3 back on
Supplier said I'm the second person to say that this week ( bought as a 3pack of ebay from well known supplier , sure they will sort it )
But it lives
All back together filled up with coolant and oil
Run for half an hour
Quick bleed
All seems good
Will give it a proper bleed tomorrow and pick up the stainless exhaust from collection point
Think a garage can put the exhaust on for me my knees and back aching now
I'm not doing that at the side of the road
And only one 13mm bolt left over
Sounds nice and quiet so far

Technically you should have at least 6 bolts of assorted sizes left over!

Hi Folks,
Apols for hijacking the thread but I've been trying to diagnose a whistling problem from the van for a while now. Initially thought it was turbo related but having done some reading on here and the Facebook groups I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the exhaust manifold. My #1 bolt is in place and looks fine, but getting the heat shield off and checking the rest is beyond my level of mechanical competence.
Is it a big job for a decent mechanic to do an inspection of the rest? And, assuming it is a warped manifold or a sheared bolt that is causing the whistle, how urgent a fix is that or is it not a big deal as long you're prepared to put up with a whistling bongo?
Any advice gratefully received.

It would be an easy fix for a competent garage to sort provided you informed them of the twisting manifold issue as this is a bit of a Bongo/Ranger trait.
As to carrying on using it, if it were a petrol then it could affect the fuelling so not good, if it were a diesel then depending on how big the blow it could affect the turbo . Having said that, on the diesel, it would be unlikely you would notice any difference performance wise unless the manifold fell off.

Mine was the front lower exhaust stud
Didnt think you can see it with the heat shield on
The nut and half the stud might still be in place
The heat shield is easy to get off only 5 bolts
And the 2 against the air duct will come out with out moving the air duct pipeing there just tight against it
Get your fingers in there all around the front stud / manifold and really Rev it to make it whistle
You should feel the hot gas escaping against your fingers
Watch out its v hot
I wouldn't do this job again I'd send it in to the professionals
If you can find one to do it
The few I spoke to said there'd want to remove the head, put on a new head etc
I'd send mine to bongolia , ( for an easy fix by a competent mechanic )

im a nearly competent mechanic and i spent 2 days weighing up the job before i started the job

if the manifold is leaking it could put hot exhaust gasses into the back of the alternator causing another problem. then again it may just warm up the wifes bum to uncomfortable levels, ask marianne about this before i did ians old bongo.

In all honesty I would get one of the lads to do it ,so for me an easy fix.



And as for the boiler, I had the diagphram go go on our Potterton electronic just last week, yes 1901 and still going!, got a bloke in to do it, that was an easy fix too.
