Rusty sill and wheel arch repairs and welding.

Post by Mickymouse » Mon Feb 20, 2017 7:31 pm

I recently decided it was about time that I had Bertie's rusting rear wheel arches repaired.
Every spring for the past three years I have bodged them up and they didn't look too bad for a
few months, but by the next year they needed doing again.
Also two years ago I had to have some welding done on a sill to get through the MOT.
They welded a patch on and it passed but the weld looked awful.
Anyway I took Bertie to KW Restorations near Bures on the Suffolk/Essex border.
This is run by Keith Wingar, he has a workshop and spray booth on a remote farm.
Keith had Bertie for a nearly two weeks, fitting it in with other jobs, and he has fabricated
and welded new metal into both wheel arches and redone the previous scabby weld on the sill.
He also resprayed the whole panel on both sides. He charged £500.00 for this work and made
a superb job of it.
Below are the before and after photo's.

Keith has a Facebook page if you do a search for KW Restorations.

Must be a nice feeling to have it sorted out. Looks like your sill has a bit of plate welded in at that oft rusted sill section just in front of the drivers side rear wheel. Apparently where a lot of moisture tends to develop. Hope it keeps the rot away for a long while to come !
They call me light foot.

Excellent news re welding etc. Is it just me or does anyone else have trouble with photobucket hijacking their phone with obnoxious scaremongering adverts that won't go away and tell you your phone has been corrupted by viruses etc?

You are not alone, had to ditch the phone and use the desktop.
